So I had a notion, today. I have to work hard not to skip ahead in the writing process. It's an easy trap to fall into, and I have. Currently, the hardest thing to resist is the cover. I want to design a cover. Or at least, I want a cover designed the way I like it. Publishers have design templates that sell depending on the publishing location but I always prefer the UK covers to the US covers. I'd like to have Aaron Acevedo design something, but I am skeptical that a first-time author could convince a major publishing house to use a freelancer of his suggestion.
I was reading Nathan Bransford's blog this morning and he's talking about the challenges of the pitch session and that's when it struck me. Design a cover post card. Book cover on one side; pitch blurb, contact information, and other relevant info on the other. I will do this once I have a finished manuscript. I am excited about this prospect.
